About Club Meetings
Meetings start at 8.00 pm, before hand you may like to join some
of the members for a meal at the Reepham Hotel (corner of Regency
Road and Churchill Road, Prospect) on Tuesday night is $4.50 Roast
Night. The meetings themselves are reasonably informal, however
a lot of formal business needs to be dealt with. The meetings usually
begin with reports from the various office bearers, for example
the Competition Secretary may tell us about upcoming Motorsport,
or the Social Secretary may tell us about the next social activity.
Following the reports we move on to what is known as general business.
During this time everyone has an opportunity to raise any subject
they feel is appropriate. The sort of things that come up are peoples
interesting experiences relating to Minis. For example you may have
discovered that a V8 Valiant bypass hose is an almost perfect match
for a Cooper"S" top radiator hose (it is!) so you can tell everyone
about it. Or someone may have gone to the truck racing at Mallala
and have something to say about it. General business is pretty much
an open forum.
After general business we have a Buy Sell and Swap session where
people can tell everyone what they’ve got or what they want. The
magazine also has free buy sell and swap adverts.
Following Buy Sell and Swap we have a little session called Sergeant
At Arms. This is a light- hearted session where the Sergeant At
Arms fines just about everyone for something silly that they have
done, if he doesn’t know of anything that you have done, there’s
a good chance someone else will dob you in, or you can dob yourself
in. The fine is $1 and the money goes towards coffee and biscuits
after the meeting.
On occasions we may show a Mini related video or someone might
give a short talk on something.
Meetings don’t appeal to everyone, some people attend all of them,
and others never attend any of them. I think a lot of people enjoy
chatting before and after the meeting more than the official meeting
itself, of course Pub Night is also a great opportunity to chat.
Please don’t judge the Club on a single meeting, it is much more
than that. When you do attend make an effort to introduce yourself
around, get to know people and club meetings will develop into a
rewarding experience.
